SANITATION PROJECTS
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CITY of NIAMEY Communal District II:
- Sanitation of the area in and around the Djamadjé Market ( Niamey II Communal District )
- Repair of latrines at the Kassaī High School in Niamey
One of the primary objectives of our Association is the study of sanitation systems existing or not within and around collective urban spaces (such as schools, medical centers, public markets, bus stations, etc...).
To understand the problems related to urban sanitation and to identify solutions and sustainable projects for sanitize neighborhoods.
Sanitation is a fundamental issue that covers several aspects :
- Human: it is a powerful factor of integration; the concerned inhabitants have a form of human dignity and live in a more serene way their relationship with the neighborhood.
- Environmental: it benefits all the populations in the vicinity and downstream by reducing local pollution and its consequences.
Sanitation is necessarily part of a global issue of water resource management and preservation.
- Sanitary: it is the population of the whole city which sees the risks of epidemics decreased. For the exposed populations, the diseases due to the lack of water are numerous and varied: diarrhoea, skin diseases, respiratory tract diseases, viral diseases (a large part of the neglected tropical diseases) etc...
- Socio-economic: an improvement of the hygiene conditions results in a reduction of the public health expenses (a great number of diseases being of hydric, fecal origin or due to the insects which proliferate in the presence of waste and stagnant water).
- Commercial: poor sanitation can have negative repercussions on the businesses and their outlook.
Fighting poverty is not only about increasing income levels, but also about increasing and improving access to basic infrastructure and services (in many developing countries, increased income does not necessarily mean access to basic services).
March-April 2020 Activities during Covid-19
To help & relieve the general population, the distribution of drinking water was subsidized; the price at the selling point in the village of Angoual-Mata (Madarounfa Region of Maradi) was reduced by half; this generated an unusual influx of people during the whole period (about 30 days period) from sun rise to sun down as shown in these images below:
